Ekiti State, from Fountain of Knowledge to Ule Uyi Ule Eye(Land of Honour and Integrity) Still wondering why Kayode Fayemi changed almost 3 decade’s slogan to that
Speaking of “Fountain of knowledge” Ekiti is known for Academic Excellence but whenever I mention that in public or people say that, there is always a fight back, like thousands of teeth ready to bite you.
There is always this cry back that Ekiti is living in past glory. I hear this mostly from people in Ondo State; I really don’t know their stress, maybe because Ekiti was created out of them and they feel jealous that Ekiti is growing.
Although we can’t deny the fact that Ondo state is a big state, and also beautiful, they have more infrastructures compared to Ekiti but not as peaceful as Ekiti State. I think Ekiti is the most peaceful state in Nigeria.
Ekiti is one of the smallest states in Nigeria. Growing up, I used to complain that there is nothing in Ekiti and we have people settling down in the state. People from different states are migrating often and some of these people are okay, married with beautiful kids and built beautiful homes here and now, they are even buying homes. Thank God for Real Estate companies like OakCity, Adron Homes, Comfort Homes, etc.. that are now in the state but these migrants are not doing anything, not like it’s compulsory they make things happen or create stuff since it’s not their land right but I just feel like “If you have the capacity, why not?” imagine the problems that will be solved and the money that will be made.
Many people complain about Ekiti not being enough, or you hear statements like “Ekiti is dry”; well it’s a fact but the truth is the story has changed. Ekiti State is not just growing but right now evolving. Gone are those days when there is nothing really amusing to see except for amusement parks.
I move around alot, that’s one of my hobbies, no matter the state I’m in, sometimes I just go out without appointment, I go out to see places, people, nature, it helps to clear my head, give me ideas and more motivation to keep pushing (That’s me being personal) The point I am trying to make is when I move around in Ekiti back then, there is nothing much to see, you know when you leave your comfort zone, or you leave the environment you are used to and you see the outside world, then you start questioning your norm; It’s just like traveling out of the country for the first time and you be like WOOOOOOOW or even better, we have Netflix, the internet, social media and the world is more connected than ever. We are literally part of the things going on in other parts of the world without stepping our feet there.
Now I can say Ekiti State is keeping up with other states, for a start. There was a time I was worried about investors coming down here to set up things and whenever I am in Lagos or Ogun state, I used to think of getting franchises of big companies to come down here although never came through but seeing Ekiti state now, I'm glad.
Ekiti State now has a flyover bridge, which was constructed in 2016 under Fayose’s regime which added to the infrastructures of Ekiti and made the street of Ado more beautiful.
We now have tech companies in affiliate with the state government that trains the youths, we now have more billboards; PR and advertisement is taking a good turn [Public Relation Firms and Ad Agencies is still not a big thing here in Ekiti though]
There are other business that popped up too like fine standard style restaurants, there are more shopping malls, high class hotels and salons
In major streets in Ekiti like Ado, Ilawe and Ikere, things are going Lagos style which is cool, it makes the state more beautiful and appealing to the eyes both during the day and at night.
The world is really moving faster than ever and Ekiti might not be able to meet up with that speed right now but Ekiti as a state is really changing and developing.
Ekiti is getting better and the state will get there too
